‘Ballymun Sequence’, an 11-minute musical video by Paris-based artists Anne Cleary and Denis Connolly, will screen as part of the Enso-Darklight Open Air Experimental Cinema Evening at the Galway Arts Festival. Commissioned by the Ballymun Primary Health Care Facility, the film is the product of a year long participative new media art project.
The artists worked with AXIS Art Centre, Ballymun, in leading a series of movement workshops with local people ranging from senior line-dancers to teenage jugglers.
Inspired by an early 20th century socio-political mural painting, the film combines choreography, juggling, dance, music and colour against the background of Ballymun.
‘Ballymun Sequence’ mixes images of people with images of the times, in this case
the images of a modern city,” say Cleary and Connolly, the artists behind the film. “The vigorous energy of the dancers, set against this changing urban landscape gives ‘Ballymun Sequence’ a euphoric quality… they are dancing to the pulse of the city.”
‘Ballymun Sequence’ will be shown as part of the Enso-Darklight Open Air Experimental Cinema event on Friday 20th July at the Spanish Arch, Galway at 11.00 pm.
Admission is free.
