11 Mar 2010 ‘The Fading Light’ Screenings Brighten Up IFI

The Irish Film Institute will host exclusive screenings of Irish writer, director and editor Ivan Kavanagh’s award-winning ‘The Fading Light’ from March 12th to 18th. The screenings will be run as part of the Institute’s ongoing commitment to new Irish film. The film walked away with honours for both Best Irish Film and Best Actor (for Patrick O’Donnell) from the 2010 Jameson Dublin International Film Festival’s. more

11 Mar 2010 ‘Triage’ Opening Belfast Festival

|
The 10th annual Belfast Film Festival will open with the gala Irish premiere screening of Danis Tanovic’s ‘Triage’. This year’s festival will feature screenings of Irish and World cinema works, workshops, an acting masterclass with ‘Sliding Doors’ star John Lynch, short films and documentaries. The event will run from April 15th to 30th. more

10 Mar 2010 Ireland’s 1st Indian Film Festival Unveiled

The Indian Film Festival Ireland (IFFI), Ireland’s first dedicated Indian Film Festival will take place in Swan Cinemas Rathmines from 25 – 28 June. The IFFI aims to celebrate and highlight the potential of Indian film in Ireland by introducing Indian films to Irish audiences throughout the four day event. more

Dublin born animator Richard Baneham and his team last night took home the Oscar for their Visual Effects work on James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ whilst the ceremony’s prestigious Best Picture prize went, for the first time, to a female director - Kathryn Bigelow for ‘The Hurt Locker’. more

Ahead of this weekend’s Academy Awards in Los Angeles, ‘The Hurt Locker’ director and producer, Kathryn Bigelow, has sent her thanks to the Irish Film & Television Academy following her receipt of the Best International Film prize at this year’s IFTAs. International Actor winner Robert Downey Jr. also recently thanked the Irish Academy for his award. more

Ballyfermot College of Further Education will be represented by four of its graduates at the 82nd Academy Awards, held in Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre on Sunday, March 7th. The annual awards ceremony sees nominations for the animation skills of former Ballyfermot College graduates Tomm Moore for ‘The Secret of Kells’; Darragh O’Connell and Nicky Phelan for their short ‘Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’ and Richard Baneham for ‘Avatar’. more

02 Mar 2010 Arts Council Reduces Funding Across the Board
|
|
In the month of February the Arts Council announced over 350 funding decisions for 2010, an investment totaling just over €49 million. Within this figure all areas of the arts including literature, dance, theatre and music see a decrease in funding from last year’s allowances. The funding in the area of film decreased from €2,395,400 in 2009 to €2,018,200 for 2010. more

02 Mar 2010 ‘His & Hers’ Takes Audience Prize at JDIFF

Ken Wardop’s documentary His & Hers came away with the Audience Award at the 2010 Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, which ended on Sunday 28th February. The film also won best documentary and cinematographer Kate McCullough was awarded the festival’s inaugural Michael Dwyer Discovery honour. more

The winners of the Satellite Broadband Ireland Digital Media Awards were announced recently at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Dublin. The winners on the night included Brown Bag Films’ ‘Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’ and Kavaleer Productions’ ‘Hasan Everywhere’ who walked away with the Special Merit Award and the Grand Prix Award respectively. more
