World Premiere of ‘Miss Julie’ at Toronto International Film Festival
25 Jul 2014 | ‘Miss Julie’ makes its World Premiere at this year's Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) which runs from 4th to 14th September. Toronto is on a par with other premiere world film festivals such as Cannes, Venice and Berlin. The festival has a highly competitive selection process and is considered a great launch pad for the North American market.

The Skelligs in Kerry to Feature in ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’
25 Jul 2014 | ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ will reportedly shoot scenes on Skellig Michael in Kerry. Online speculation suggests that the World Heritage Site will possibly act as the location for Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy. Skellig Michael, or Great Skellig, is the larger of the two Skellig islands off the coast of County Kerry.

‘The Legend of Harry and Ambrose’ to Shoot in September
25 Jul 2014 | Comedy group, Crooked Gentlemen, will begin shooting their new feature film, 'The Legend of Harry and Ambrose', in September. Principle photography will commence on the anarchic period piece on September 11th this year.

Ciarán Foy’s Sinister 2 to be released in Summer 2015
24 Jul 2014 | Irish director Ciarán Foy’s Sinister 2 will open in US cinemas in late Summer 2015 on August 21st. The film, produced by Blumhouse Pictures and Entertainment One and which will be released by Focus Features in the US is the sequel to the 2012 hit which starred Ethan Hawke and grossed almost $100 million from $3 million budget.

Feature film on Irish banking crisis ‘The Guarantee’ begins shooting in Dublin

New Irish feature film The Guarantee, which recreates the drama surrounding the Irish banking crisis in 2008 has begun shooting in Dublin this week. The film’s casting has already raised some eyebrows with Irish actors taking on roles of some of the most talked-about political and financial figures in modern Irish history. The film will tell the story of the bank guarantee given by the Irish government in 2008 to secure the domestic banking system, beginning the story four years before and charting the origin of that pivotal decision.

Jack Reynor cast in ‘The Secret Scripture’
21 Jul 2014 | Twenty two year old Wicklow native Jack Reynor (‘What Richard Did’), who most recently appeared in Dublin for the premiere of ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ and was in Galway last week for the premiere of ‘Glassland’, will return to Ireland for his next movie role in the film adaptation of Sebastian Barry’s ‘The Secret Scripture’.

Jim Sheridan's ‘In America’ to be adapted for TV Series
21 Jul 2014 | Filmmaker Jim Sheridan is set to adapt his 2002 film 'In America' into a series for the small screen. ‘In America’, which starred Paddy Considine, Samantha Morton, Sarah Bolger, Emma Bolger and Djimon Hounsou, followed an Irish immigrant family as they tried to adjust to life in the USA with little money. Sheridan is in discussions with a leading American network network about the project, which deals with the issue of illegal immigration in the States.

Peter Coonan to star in TV3’s Feature Film ‘The Guarantee’
10 Jul 2014 | Produced by John Kelleher Media in association with the BAI, the Irish Film Board and TV3, filming of ‘The Guarantee’ will get underway in the TV3’s Sony HD Studio on 21st July. Directed by Ian Power (The Runway), the film recreates the drama surrounding the most significant political decision in modern Irish history when the Irish government decided to guarantee the entire domestic banking system on the night of September 29, 2008. ‘The Guarantee’ tells the story of that night, and what led to it. Starting four years earlier, it charts the peak of the boom and the beginning of the bust.

The feature was one of the most talked about projects at Paris’ recent Small is Biutiful co-production/distribution meet, and follows his features ‘Magic is Hope’ and ‘Saol’, which was shot earlier this year in only 14 hours.

RTÉ and BBC Comedy to produce ‘Comedy Showcase’ Event
10 Jul 2014 | RTÉ is cooperating with BBC Network Comedy and BBC Northern Ireland on a ‘Comedy Showcase’ Event, which will take place on 22nd September 2014 in Belfast. As part of this RTÉ will be nominating one scripted project which is a classic sitcom setup, to be performed in front of a live audience.

Michael Slovis to Direct Episodes of ‘GOT 5’
07 Jul 2014 | ‘Breaking Bad’ director Michael Slovis has joined the ‘Game of Thrones’ directing team and has been given two episodes to helm in the show’s fifth season. Slovis directed four episodes of ‘Breaking Bad’ (‘Kafkaesque’, ‘Cornered’, ‘Live Free Or Die’, ‘Confessions’) and was the director of photography on more than 20 episodes of the hit AMC show.

Interview with Brendan Muldowney, Director-Writer of 'Love Eternal'
04 Jul 2014 | ‘Love Eternal’, the second feature from Irish filmmaker Brendan Muldowney following his haunting ‘Savage’, will be released in cinemas in Ireland today. Based on the Japanese novel ‘In Love with the Dead’ by Kei Oshi, the feature follows a lonely young man who becomes obsessed with death and tries to understand life by coming closer to death.

‘Jimi: All Is By My Side’ First Trailer Released
04 Jul 2014 | XLrator Media has released the first trailer for ‘Jimi: All Is by My Side,’ starring Andre Benjamin (Outkast). The film opens in Ireland on August 8th of this year. Oscar-winning ‘12 Years a Slave’ writer John Ridley directed the Jimi Hendrix biopic and wrote the script.

‘Lily's Driftwood Bay’ Gets 2nd Series
04 Jul 2014 | Nickelodeon has commissioned a second series of pre-school series ‘Lily’s Driftwood Bay’ from Belfast indie Sixteen South. A further 52 x 7 minute episodes of the series have been ordered to run next year on Nick Jr. The second season commission follows a licensing deal between Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer products (NVCP) and Sixteen South. The deal gives NVCP the licensing rights for the property within the UK and Ireland.
