Bow Street launch new Filmmaking Courses at Graduation Showcase
18 Oct 2023 : News Desk
Bow Street Graduation Ceremony 2023
The graduation ceremony took place at the Light House Cinema in Dublin on Tuesday 17th October, with directors, agents, casting directors and industry guests in attendance.

The graduation ceremony put the work of Bow Street’s full-time Programme for Screen Acting students on display. Among the many performers were graduates Louis McCartney currently rehearsing for Stranger Things in the West End, Lewis Harris currently appearing in Ironbound at The Abbey Theatre and Megan Kennelly who recently beat competition from over 70 drama schools and Universities across the UK to be selected as a finalist for the Spotlight Prize in London.

Artistic Director Shimmy Marcus took the opportunity to highlight some of the school’s achievements over the year including the multiple awards being won by Alumni working as filmmakers including many recipients of the Actor as Creator Scheme which they run in partnership with Screen Ireland.

It was in that context that he announced that the school would be expanding their training next year offering Courses and Workshops in the art of Filmmaking.

“This feels like a natural evolution and the next step for us. It has become obvious that all the techniques and ideas we apply to training actors are equally transferable to the art of filmmaking. As we have always strived to teach and empower our graduates to create their own work it make sense to now offer this training to the wider community interested in filmmaking.”

Recently, Bow Street have continued to develop and broaden their range of courses and workshops, including forging new collaborations with X Pollinator on their CREATOR scheme and providing more outreach workshops including Fastnet Film Festival.

Among the many guests in attendance were writers and directors including Juanita Wilson, Diarmuid Goggins, Cathy Brady, Claire Dix, Conor McMahon, Naomi Sheridan, Baz Black and casting director Maureen Hughes, and agents Morris Epstein and Rachel Byrne (Lisa Richards), Tom O'Sullivan, Maureen McGlynn, Siobhan Aislinn and Brian Moore (Reactors), Gerry O'Brien (Equity)

Full details of courses and upcoming workshops can be found on the Bow Street website here.
