Oscar-winning directors Ross White and Tom Berkeley will attend Fastnet Film Festival 2024. They will be present for a post-screening Q&A for their latest short The Golden West.
Fastnet Film Festival will welcome the Oscar-winning directing duo Ross White and Tom Berkeley (An Irish Goodbye) to Schull in May, to screen their latest award-winning short film The Golden West. The directors will engage in a post-screening Q&A at the festival, and also host a Film Quiz on Saturday May 25th. IFTN spoke with White and Berkeley last year to discuss what lessons they’ve learnt from their success, and the new challenges they faced shooting this latest short.
The Golden West is set in 1849, and follows two warring Irish sisters who, having fled the Great Famine, seek their fortunes in the gold rush. But with winter fast approaching and nothing to show for their efforts, their age-old feud soon threatens to become deadly.
The short stars Aoife Duffin (Moone Boy) and Eileen Walsh (The Magdalene Sisters) as sisters Fionnula and Noreen, as well as Welsh actor Sion Ifan (Hidden).
The Golden West is produced by Jamie Tarr (Fly the Flag), alongside Berkeley and White under their production banner, Floodlight Pictures. David Clarke (Mattress Men), John Kelleher (September), Kevin McGrath (An Irish Goodbye), Stephen Pomeroy, David Power (The Guarantee), and Susan Simnett (Fadia's Tree) serve as executive producers, and Yves Dominicy (An Irish Goodbye) serves as associate producer.
Fastnet Film Festival is yet to release their full lineup of films. As well as announcing White and Berkeley as guests, the festival have announced a two day screen acting masterclass presented by Bow Street Academy and Maureen Hughes Casting. The masterclass will cover areas such as auditions, key differences between stage and screen acting, casting, self-tapes, shooting and performance analysis. The masterclass will be led by casting director Maureen Hughes, with filmmaker and director of Bow Street Shimmy Marcus and associate artistic director of Bow Street Sarah Hone.
