Specialist AV
A very busy year at Specialist AV has seen them recently invest in upgrading their Hardware and Software to cater for the increased demand for their Digital services.

The video capture, conversion and mastering company has been in operation since 2001 with MD Joe Murphy at the helm.

Speaking to IFTN about the recent upgrades, Murphy said: “Working closely with Stephen Murnane in Eurotek (Irl) Ltd we installed a new router with HD monitoring to allow us to increase our throughput and digitise multiple streams simultaneously ensuring that we can meet our clients increasingly tight deadlines and requests for new digital formats.”

This new installation combined with their Vantage software now allows Specialist AV to deliver any format to any station worldwide with the minimum of fuss. Utilising their Pipeline encoder with Vantage, they can encode multiple formats simultaneously and upload via Aspera with our 200Mbit/sec Fibre link thus providing an extremely fast and reliable service when deadlines are tight.

This new capability has allowed the company to fulfil a number of large archiving jobs for amongst others, The University of Limerick and Shell Ireland who had many hours of material on VHS, Umatic,DVD,CD ROM, Betacam and Digital Betacam. They provided them with their source footage back as ProRes files and proxy H264 files. Other Archive clients include UCD,TCD and Irish International.

“We can work closely with you to help you decide what Digital format best suits your archive and help design your workflow”, continued Murphy.

Specialist AV also currently support digitising many historical tape formats including 1” C, Umatic, Hi8, DV/DVCAM,VHS and the newer formats such as Digital Betacam & HDCAM.

They also deliver on a daily basis AS-11 files for clients to broadcasters for transmission.
