Barry Ward cast in Irish/UK co-production ‘Never Walk Alone’
08 Jul 2015 : Seán Brosnan
Actor Barry Ward
Barry Ward is the first actor announced in upcoming Irish/UK co-production ‘Never Walk Alone’ – which is being co-produced by Paul Donovan’s Deadpan Pictures.

Irish director Andrew Baird is slated to direct with Christian O’Reilly penning the script about three generations of men in an Irish community. Ward will play a man haunted by his childhood decision not to pursue trials with Liverpool FC who pressures his talented teenage son into taking a similar opportunity. The actor has been busy over the past 12 months – Ken Loach’s ‘Jimmy’s Hall’ with Ward in the lead is currently in limited US cinemas and he has also just been nominated for a Bingham New Talent Award at the Galway Film Fleadh where two of his films – ‘Pursuit’ and ‘Blood Cells’ – will screen.

Donovan’s co-producers on the film are Evzen Kolar and Deborah Kolar of LA-based KPI Entertainment, according to Screen International. The Kolars produced the 2004 Irish film ‘The Boys and Girls From County Clare’ which starred Colm Meaney and Charlotte Bradley.

Deadpan Pictures has been the new moniker for Paul Donovan’s wing of Grand Pictures since September 2014 – with their main energy and focus principally on TV comedy production for UK and Irish broadcasters. Donovan has previously produced three seasons of Chris O’Dowd’s ‘Moone Boy’ as well as the feature films ‘Wide Open Spaces’ and ‘Dead Long Enough’.

‘Never Walk Alone’ is slated to begin production in late 2015/early 2016 and will shoot outside Dublin and in Liverpool.
