Robert De Niro to Star in ‘Idol’s Eye’
Robert De Niro has been confirmed to star in Olivier Assayas’ ‘Idol’s Eye’ alongside Robert Pattinson.
Production Company Benaroya Pictures said principle photography on the heist action-thriller is expected to start in October in Chicago. The movie is the Assayas’ follow up to ‘The Clouds of Sils Maria,’ starring Juliette Binoche, Chloe Grace Moretz and Kristen Stewart, which recently competed at Cannes. Official plot details for ‘Idol’s Eye’ are being kept under wraps, but the film is said to be based on Hillel Levin’s 2007 Playboy article ‘Boosting The Big Tuna’ and is inspired by actual events, in which a crew of thieves led by John Mendell robbed a pawn shop only to discover it was a front for Tony Accardo, the most brutal crime boss in Chicago history.
The project was developed by Charles Gillibert along with CG Cinema, Bluegrass Films’ Scott Stuber, Film 360's Scott Lambert, Alexandra Milchan and Michael Benaroya, with Ben Sachs executive producing for Benaroya Pictures. International Film Trust, which was co-founded by Benaroya, will be handling international sales. CAA, which arranged financing for the film, will represent domestic rights along with WME.
Daniel Emmerson Joins Michael Fassbender’s DMC Film
Producer Daniel Emmerson has joined Michael Fassbender and Conor McCaughan’s (Eden Lake) London-based production outfit DMC Film.
The company is currently in post-production on John Maclean’s feature debut ‘Slow West’, which also stars Fassbender and is expected to start shooting in 2015. The movie is backed by Film4 in co-production with See Saw Films. ‘Pitch Black Heist’, which was also produced by DMC Films and directed by Maclean, won the BAFTA award for best short film in 2012. Other DMC Films projects include ‘Assassin’s Creed’ with Ubisoft and New Regency, and due to start shooting in 2015, as well as the BBC Films backed ‘Garagistas’, written by James Graham. Emmerson is also set to bring a host of new titles with him to DMC such as ‘Fagin's Kitchen’, which is being directed by Kibwe Tavares, written by Daniel Kaluuya and co-developed with Film4.
‘This is Where I Leave You’ Trailer
Warner Bros have released the first trailer for the Shawn Levy-directed film ‘This is Where I Leave You’.
The dramedy stars a host of well-known faces such as Jason Bateman (Horrible Bosses), Tina Fey (Date Night), Jane Fonda (Monster In Law), Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids), Corey Stoll (House of Cards), Adam Driver (Girls), Connie Britton (Nashville), Kathryn Hahn (We’re the Millers), Timothy Olyphant (Hitman) and Dax Sheppard (Parenthood). The pic, based on a dysfunctional family reluctantly brought together for the funeral of its patriarch, is written by Jonathan Tropper and adapted from his own bestselling novel of the same name. When their father passes away, four grown siblings, bruised and banged up by their respective adult lives, are forced to return to their childhood home and live under the same roof together for a week, along with their over-sharing mother and an assortment of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. Confronting their history and frayed relationships with the people who know and love them best, they ultimately reconnect in hysterical and emotionally affecting ways. The movie is produced by Jeff Lavine and Paula Weinstein with Mary McLaglen executive producing.
