Sigourney Weaver for ‘Avatar’ Sequel
Sigourney Weaver is set to return in the three ‘Avatar’ sequels that are scheduled to begin production later this year.

James Cameron’s science fiction action film is one of Hollywood’s highest grossing films ever cashing in at $2.78 billion in 2009. In the original movie Weaver played Dr Grace Augustine, but her character was killed off at the end of the film. She is now set for a return to the franchise but in a different role. She joins previously announced cast returnees Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Stephen Lang. The movies will be produced by Cameron and Jon Landau via their Lightstorm Entertainment. Screenwriters for the three films include Josh Friedman for ‘Avatar 2’, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver for ‘Avatar 3’ and Shane Salerno for ‘Avatar 4’. Cameron will be co-writer on all three films.

In a statement, Cameron said: “Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made ‘Aliens’. We’re good friends who’ve always worked well together, so it just feels right that she’s coming back for the ‘Avatar’ sequels. We’re both looking forward to this new creative challenge, the latest chapter in our long and continuing collaboration.”

The as-yet-untitled ‘Avatar’ sequels will be filmed back-to-back with the first scheduled to be released in December 2016, the second in December 2017 and the third a year later.

Universal Lands Coen Brothers ‘Hail, Caesar!’
Universal Pictures has acquired worldwide distribution rights to Joel and Ethan Coen’s latest original screenplay ‘Hail, Caesar!’

George Clooney (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) and Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men) have also been named to star in the Oscar winning sibling’s upcoming comedy that will centre on a character named Eddie Mannix who works as a fixer in Hollywood. Universal Pictures has come on to distribute, with the Coen’s producing along with Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan for Working Title Films. This collaboration will be the eighth between the Coen brothers and Working Title.

‘Hail Caesar!’ follows the critically acclaimed ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’ which was set in New York’s folk music community and starred Oscar Isaac. The Coen brothers have also come onboard to pen Steven Spielberg's and Tom Hanks' upcoming untitled Cold War thriller for DreamWorks.

UTA Signs ‘Action Movie Kid’ Viral Video
United Talent Agency (UTA) has signed ‘Action Movie Kid’ creator Daniel ‘Hashi’ Hashimoto with an eye toward moving into feature film directing.

The series of ‘Action Movie Kid’ You Tube shorts has gained more than 32 million views since the DreamWorks Animation VFX pro went viral only a few months ago with special effects-enhanced homemade shorts starring his 3-year-old son James, which he edited in Adobe After Effects to transform the tyke’s daily life into super-powered adventures. Hashimoto previously worked on animations such as ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’ and ‘How to Train Your Dragon’. The special effects-laden videos, which have been making headlines around the world, are now set to open up to a series of books, products and feature spinoffs in the coming months.
