Amazon Prime Instant Video UK has released the first images of ‘Ripper Street’ season three, which has begun filming in Manchester.

The Victoria crime drama pictures Matthew Macfadyen, Jerome Flynn and Adam Rothenberg, who will all reprise their roles as Detective Inspector Edmund Reid, Detective Sergeant Bennet Drake and Captain Homer Jackson. ‘Ripper Street’ was axed by the BBC last year but announced it will be returning for a third series on Amazon's Prime Instant Video, exclusive to subscribers, and then a few months later on BBC1.

Production on the third season is currently underway in Manchester before the series moves to Loughborough then to its traditional production place in Clancy Barracks, Dublin, where it will remain until mid-August. The official cast for the Victorian drama is yet to be released but familiar faces such as MyAnna Buring (Long Susan) and Monaghan actress Charlene McKenna (Rose) are expected to make a dramatic return. The first and second series of ‘Ripper Street’, which was all filmed in Ireland, employed over 5,000 Irish cast members, extras and crew, providing approximately 170,000 Irish work hours per series. ‘Ripper Street’ is a co-production between Ireland’s Element Pictures and the UK’s Tiger Aspect Productions and Lookout Point with funding from BBC, BBC Worldwide and the Irish Film Board, who proved crucial in securing permission for ‘Ripper Street’ to shoot in Ireland for a third year.

The shows writer and creator Richard Warlow said; "It's a day many of us thought we'd never see, but it is particularly wonderful to be able to say that cameras are rolling on ‘Ripper Street’ once more.

Season three will continue to be co-produced in the U.S. by BBC America and be distributed globally by BBC Worldwide. The series will screen on BBC One in 2015 after it is made available on Amazon in the UK. The first season of ‘Ripper Street’ continues on RTÉ One on Monday night, May 26, at 11.15pm.
