Line-Up for Corona Fastnet Short Film Festival

Set up six years ago, the Corona Fastnet Short Film Festival will be returning for 2014, taking place in Schull, Co. Cork from May 21st to 25th. Over 200 short films will be streamed throughout the village in over 15 venues over the five days. There will be gala screenings, workshops, seminars, forums, clinics and round table discussions. Below is a day-by-day look at some of the 2014 festival highlights.

Opening on Thursday 21st, screenings that day include shorts from India, China, Lebanon, Mexico, Latin America, Italy, Poland and Spain. ‘Volkswagon Joe’ and documentary ‘Living in a Coded Land’ will be screened followed by a Q&A with respective directors Brian Deane and Pat Collins.

Friday May 22nd includes a producers forum between Sandy Lieberson, Hilary Durman and John Kelleher, chaired by Gaby Smyth, and seminars running all day covering sound recording, cinematography, assistant directing and animation, all hosted by industry professionals. ‘Run & Jump’, which is out in Irish cinemas this Friday, will also be screened proceeded by a Q&A with writer Ailbhe Keoghan.

The following day will host workshops covering lighting and gaffer, digital film camera, sound, final cut pro picture and sound, and picture grading for all levels. There will also be a director’s forum chaired by John Kelleher and attended by Jim Sheridan, Stephen Frears, Pat Collins, Carmel Winters, Maurice O’Callaghan, Brian Deane and Jack Gold.

Sunday 25th May, the final day of the event, will screen shortlisted submission films. One of the highlights will be a screening of IFTA-winning and Oscar-nominated feature drama ‘Philomena’, introduced by cast member, producer and writer Steve Coogan. The screening will take place at 2pm and at 5pm there will be a Greg Dyke interview with crew members of ‘Philomena’, including Coogan, director Stephen Frears and producers Gabrielle Tana and Tracey Seaward.

The day finishes with the closing ceremony and prize giving.

Fringe events throughout the week will include children’s activities like puppet shows, puppet making, animation workshops, storytelling, drama, children’s cinema, t-shirt painting and more.
