The WGI will begin accepting submissions for the 17th annual Zebbie Awards this Friday, May 3rd. Scripts produced and first screened, staged, broadcast in Ireland (or generally available to an Irish audience) in 2023 are eligible for consideration.
There are seven categories in the Zebbie Awards, recognising the best scripts across feature film, TV drama, continuing drama, theatre, short film, animation, and audio/radio drama.
- Best Radio & Audio Drama Script
- Best Animation Script
- Best Theatre Script
- Best Short Film Script
- Best Feature Film Script
- Best TV Drama Script
- Best Continuing Drama Script
Previous winners of the Zebbie Awards include Lisa McGee, Colm Bairéad, Jody O’Neill, and Carmel Callan.
The submissions portal will be open on FilmFreeway until midnight Sunday 26th May 2024. All eligible submitted scripts will be read and shortlisted by WGI’s panels. The three shortlisted scripts in each category will then be voted on by Writers’ Guild of Ireland members.
“I’m delighted to announce that submissions for our 17th Annual Zebbie Awards will open this week,” said WGI Chair, Jennifer Davidson. “Celebrating the very best of Irish writing talent across screen, stage and radio, the Zebbie Awards allow writers to honour our peers, and to recognise the brilliant work that Irish writers create. They are the only Irish Awards for writers, voted on by writers. It also gives us a really important opportunity to take stock of the work that Irish writers are doing year on year, and to shine a light on the issues facing writers in Ireland in any given year.”
The Zebbies Awards Event will take place on Tuesday 3rd September 2024 in The Sugar Club, Dublin 2, hosted by Tara Flynn.
