Irish film and TV composer Niall Byrne has completed work on the score for ‘The Widower’, a three-part drama series produced by ITV Studios, NZ Films and Ireland’s Octagon Films.
The dark and powerful drama tells the true story of Malcolm Webster who was convicted of murdering his first wife and attempting to murder his second wife.
Starring Reece Shearsmith (Psychoville), Archie Panjabi (The Fall), John Hannah (Spartacus) Sheridan Smith (Mrs Biggs), Scott Ainslie (EastEnders), Kate Arneil (Jack Ryan) and Alan Convy (Doctors), each episode will focus on Webster’s relationship with each of his victim’s and is set in Scotland and New Zealand.
Byrne’s score for the BBC film, ‘Loving Miss Hatto’, won Best Original Score at the 2013 Irish Film and Television Awards. The Irish composer previously studied Piano and Composition at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and has since gone onto compose music for feature films and television dramas both in Ireland and abroad. His credits include ‘Parked’ starring Colm Meaney, ‘Single-Handed’, ‘Gold’, ‘Small Engine Repair’, ‘Cairo Time’ and the classic Irish silent film ‘Guests of the Nation’, which premiered in September 2011 by the RTE Concert Orchestra.
‘The Widower’ is penned by Jeff Pope and James Barton. The drama is directed by Paul Whittington and produced by Kwadjo Dajan.
