Northern Irish film composer and music producer Jenny McCaffrey has won the award for Best Soundtrack at the Madrid International film Festival for her work on Laura Graham’s short film ‘Imbolc’.
Funded by Northern Ireland Screen, ‘Imbolc’ follows an American anthropologist who uncovers evidence linking her ancestors to a witch trial while researching her family’s Ulster Scots roots.
Ms McCaffrey, who recently graduated from the Masters in Music for Film and Television at Bristol University, spoke of her delight at collaborating with Ms Graham and winning the prestigious award.
Ms Graham also told the Ulster Star how Ms McCaffrey’s music proved a perfect fit for the film, capturing the emotion of the images onscreen.
‘Jenny was such a pleasure to work with. She understood the subtleties I, as the Director, hoped to convey through the use of music, and as she employed her expertise and ability she created another layer of meaning and brought beauty and cohesion to the images and the story of Imbolc. The music still brings tears to my eyes,’ she added.
