Gengon Media, the Dublin-based film and TV production house, have announced the appointment of Matt Richards as producer of their first feature film ‘Ninety Five’ - set to film in Dublin, Belfast and the West of Ireland in early September.
The film, which is currently in pre-production, will be written and directed by Gengon Media Managing Director Dave Byrne, with Ovidiu Ciugulea acting as director of photography and overseeing post production.
Gengon Media have already secured a North American theatrical release for the film with a major US distribution company, which will be followed by Europe, Asia, UK and Ireland.
Mr Byrne welcomed the appointment of Matt Richards as a great asset to the Gengon Media team.
‘We are delighted to have Matt come on board. He brings a completely refreshing energy to the project and, with his track record in production and finance, he is the perfect fit for us,’ Mr Byrne said.
Matt Richards is an award-winning director, producer and screenwriter with a 20-year career spanning over 300 programmes for BBC One & Two, ITV1, Channel 4, Five, Discovery, History Channel, Dave and numerous international broadcasters in North America and Australia.
Director of the feature film ‘To Say Goodbye’, Mr Richards has also written the screenplays ‘Jasim’, ‘To Say Goodbye’ and ‘Island Affair’; has co-written ‘Rise To Cool’ and ‘7 Days; and is currently working on ‘Shooting The Cook’ and ‘The Sombrero Kid’.
‘Ninety Five’ tells the story of Aidan - a rebellious young man from a dysfunctional family - who tries to discover a purpose in life and reconnect with his childhood love interest, Holly, against the background of racial and political tensions in Ireland in 1995.
Aidan must ultimately choose between the working-class rural establishment and the prospect of a better life in Dublin as a student at Trinity College.
Up-and-coming actors Sean Rea and Lena-Marie Fitzgerald star as the leads, in a coming of age story before the coming of the Celtic Tiger.
‘After two years of development, this is Gengon Media’s debut feature film and we are looking forward to getting stuck in and bringing this project to completion,’ Mr Byrne added. ‘Everybody involved in the project is passionate about it and we are looking forward to bringing it to completion.’
