Gengon Media - independent production service providers for the TV & film industry - are expanding their Balbriggan based operation in the coming months with more staff, as demand for their services continues to grow.

The company, which was founded in April this year, has also signed a US distribution deal for their new feature film ‘Ninety Five’ which is currently in pre-production and expected to be ready for release early next year.

Managing Director Dave Byrne spoke to IFTN this week about the services offered by Gengon Media at all stages of production; the inspiration behind ‘Ninety Five’; and the company’s plans for the future as they aim to give a boost to the local community.

‘As production service providers, we’re all-inclusive from concept to delivery, and anyone can come in at any stage during that process and utilise our expertise,’ Mr Byrne said. ‘We can package an idea for funding purposes right through to production and post-production including editing, colour grading, CGI, VFX and special effects.’

Gengon Media currently employs seven individuals but hopes to expand the team soon with at least eight new appointments in the areas of post-production, production and finance.

As principal photography begins on ‘Ninety-Five’ in September, IFTN asked Mr Byrne where the inspiration for the project came from.

‘The concept came from discussions with my colleague Curtis Hanbury about growing up in pre-Celtic Tiger Ireland, at the beginning of mass immigration into the country, and the film is very much a character study piece about the inability to communicate at that age,’ he said.

The plot follows a young man named Aidan who, following his Leaving Cert, develops feelings for his best friend’s girlfriend and becomes involved in a relationship with an older woman.

‘It’s a subtext driven film and the focus is very much on what’s not being said as much as what’s being said,’ Mr Byrne added.

Social responsibility is another area of special importance to Gengon Media, which will involve offering two awards annually to emerging volunteer groups from the Fingal area.

‘The minute we set up the company we decided we wanted to help any new community or charity group to build brand awareness,’ Mr Byrne said. ‘Helping them out for free is our way of giving back into the community.’

With several major projects in the pipeline - to be announced in the coming months - Gengon Media’s ambitions are only getting started.
