'Ripper Street' Filming Moves to Natural History Museum, Dublin
29 Apr 2013 :
Detective Inspector Reid furrows his brow.
Filming on Season 2 of ‘Ripper Street’ has moved to the Natural History Museum on Merrion Street - affectionately known as the ‘Dead Zoo’ for its taxidermied animals - as production continues on the Whitechapel set series.

Whether detectives Reid and Drake can solve the mystery of the missing rhino heads and horns, which were moved for safekeeping to the museum archive in Swords before being stolen, remains to be seen.

'Ripper Street’ is nominated for the top award of Best Drama Series in this year’s BAFTA TV awards, which are set to take place on 12th May.

Clancy Barracks again doubles for police headquarters in London as the primary shooting location for the second season of the BAFTA-nominated BBC series, which will wrap shooting in Dublin on 31st August.

Among the Irish cast and crew to work on ‘Ripper Street’ to date are Monaghan actress Charlene McKenna (Raw, Jump); producer Ed Guiney; make-up artists Sharon Doyle and Eileen Buggy (both IFTA winners at this year’s ceremony); production designer Mark Geraghty (who also won an IFTA for his work on the series); costume designer Lorna Marie Mugan; and editor Helen Chapman.

‘Ripper Street’ follows the adventures of Detectives Edmund Reid (Matthew Macfadyen), Bennett Drake (Game of Thrones’ Jerome Flynn) and US Army Captain Homer Jackson (Adam Rothenberg), as they investigate a series of grisly killings in Whitechapel, London’s East End, in 1889 - six months after the Jack the Ripper murders.

As fear spreads that Jack has returned, Detective Reid suspects the work of copycat killers…

A co-production between Ireland’s Element Pictures and the UK’s Tiger Aspect Productions and Lookout Point, ‘Ripper Street’ will return to BBC in 2014.
