Fox Currently Developing ‘Guys and Dolls’ Remake
It was yesterday confirmed that 20th Century Fox has now closed a deal for the movie rights to a new version of the Frank Loesser musical ‘Guys and Dolls’. Fox had reportedly been after the rights for several months but had to overcome numerous legal details before a deal could be finalised. While no director is yet attached to the remake, the studio is reportedly in talks with Hollywood actors Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to star. The film’s plot, originally adapted from Damon Runyon’s short stories, follows a New York gambler (played by Frank Sinatra in the original) who takes a bet to take a cold female missionary to Cuba in hopes to finance a craps game, but ends up falling for her instead. The film also starred legendary screen actor Marlon Brando and Jean Simmons and was nominated for four Academy Awards. Several companies have tried to make a ‘Guys and Dolls’ remake happen, but rights holder Jo Loesser (widow of original ‘Guys and Dolls’ writer Frank Loesser) has rejected all deals until now.

Amy Winehouse Documentary Headed for Cannes
Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Asif Kapadia is teaming up with Universal Music to bring the story of singer Amy Winehouse’s life and career to the big screen. Focus Features International will introduce the project to prospective buyers at next month’s Cannes Film Festival. Amy Winehouse rose to international fame following the release of her second album, ‘Back to Black’, which has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide since its release in 2006. The English artist tragically died of alcohol poisoning in 2011. ‘Back to Black’ posthumously became the UK’s best-selling album in the 21st Century, at that point. The untitled documentary will be directed by award-winning documentary filmmaker Asif Kapadia, who directed the critically acclaimed documentary ‘Senna’ in 2010, which told the story of the monumental life and tragic death of legendary Brazilian motor-racing champion Ayrton Senna. Kapadia will team up once again with ‘Senna’ producer James Gay-Rees, who will produce through Playmaker Films, Kapadia and Gay-Rees’ new production entity.
