‘Iron Man 3’ to become first film to screen in the ‘fourth dimension’ format in Japan
The highly anticipated Hollywood blockbuster ‘Iron Man 3’ will become the first film to play in the 4DX format (fourth dimension) in Japan. The film will be shown starting April 26th at a theatre in Nayoga, central Japan, and the theatre plans to screen 12 titles a year using the revolutionary format. The film will be shown with blowing wind and odour effects, strobe lights, tilting seats, and equipment in the ceiling that can drop bubbles down upon the audience. The first film to be shown in the format was ‘Avatar’ in 2009 in Seoul, where the company who designed the system, CJ Group, is based. 4DX has already been in use in theatres in China, South Korea, Thailand, Russia, and Mexico, and CJ Group is reported to be moving ahead with plans to bring the viewing format to America this year. It seems that it is only a matter of time before ‘fourth dimension’ makes its way to Europe.

David O. Russell’s film on the Abscam scandal gets a title: ‘American Hustle’
‘American Hustle’, the follow-up to David O. Russell’s multi-award winning ‘Silver Linings Playbook’, is currently filming in Massachusetts. The film revolves around a series of events that took place in the 1970’s where corrupt senators were caught by a team of con-artists who were co-operating with the federal government. ‘Abscam’ was the name of the sting operation that was concocted to capture the corrupt officials. The screenplay was written by Eric Singer (The International) and the film boasts an all-star cast: Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert DeNiro, Jeremy Renner, and comedian Louis CK. Set for release in December 2013, ‘American Hustle’ is set to be Russell’s third major Oscar contender, following in the footsteps of ‘The Fighter’ and ‘Silver Linings Playbook’.
