Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead break ratings record
American television channel AMC reportedly pulled in 12.4 million viewers for the season three finale of its hugely popular drama series ‘The Walking Dead’. In comparison, the season two finale of the show pulled in about 9 million viewers, and the ratings for the season three finale broke the previous record held by the show, which was 12.3 million for the season three midseason premiere. Irish-shot ‘Game of Thrones’ also broke ratings records by pulling in 4.4 million viewers for its season three premiere on HBO; up 13% from the 3.9 million who tuned in to the season two premiere last year. What these figures indicate is that in spite of the introduction of online viewing, on-demand television, and DV-Rs reducing traditional ratings by allowing viewers to access television shows long after the original air date, watching live television still remains popular among television audiences. And even though ‘Game of Thrones’ was the most-pirated series of 2012, the thrill of watching live premieres and experiencing what everyone else is at the same time still holds appeal to many audiences.

Agatha Christie estate signs with WME
The Agatha Christie Estate has signed with global talent agency William Morris Endeavor. The late British writer Agatha Christie wrote many crime and mystery novels, short stories and plays and spawned numerous franchises. The author continues to sell more than three million books worldwide per year and to date has sold more than two billion books. WME will represent all facets of her estate, with plans to expand into television, film, and digital media. Her properties include 80 novels and iconic characters such as Hercules Poirot and Miss Marple, each of whom has had very successful television franchises. With this particular acquisition, we should expect many film and television adaptations of Agatha Christie’s work in the near future.
