Several Irish actors have booked roles for the new TV pilot season of 2013-14 in the United States on major networks.
First up, Cork-born Edward MacLiam, best-known for Holby City and Eastenders, will take the lead role in the ABC show ‘Big Thunder’, a 19th century-set drama based in a rural mining town. MacLiam will play the lead character Dr. Grant Carson, while joining him on set will be recent IFTA-winner Ruth Bradley, who’ll also feature, playing the role of a nanny. The pilot will be shot in Vancouver, Canada.
Meanwhile, 'Once Upon A Time' and 'The Tudors' star Sarah Bolger will join a talented ensemble cast in ‘Mixology’, a comedic look at the dating life of 10 characters over the course of one night in Manhattan. The actress will play the role of Janey with the pilot being directed by legendary sitcom director and multiple Emmy-winner Larry Charles (Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm) and with a script from the writers of The Hangover movie.
Stuart Townsend will also take a lead role in another ABC show with ‘Betrayal’ where he’ll play a lawyer whose life spirals out of control after he begins an affair with a married-photographer. The pilot has been written by David Zabel (ER) and helmed by Patty Jenkins, who directed Townsend’s ex-girlfriend Charlize Theron to her Oscar success in 2004.
These newest announcements are in addition to both Eoin Macken, who as exclusively revealed by IFTN, will star in the NBC pilot ‘After Hours’ with ‘Taken’ director Pierre Morel and Sharon Horgan. The ‘Pulling’ star will executively produce the US remake of her hit-comedy for ABC but will also write and star in her own original sitcom for the network, ‘Bad Management’.
