Jamie Dornan and Cillian Murphy to star in ‘Anthropoid’

Jamie Dornan and Cillian Murphy are to lead the cast in world war two thriller ‘Anthropoid’, about the attempted assassination of prominent Nazi official Reinhard Heydrich.

Heydrich was the head of the SS and was one of the main architects of the Holocaust - widely considered number three in the Nazi ranks behind Hitler and Himmler.

Operation Anthropoid was led by two soldiers (trained by British forces) from Czechoslovakia’s army-in-exile who were parachuted into their homeland to carry out the mission against the Nazi nicknamed “The Butcher of Prague”.

Oscar and BAFTA-nominated British filmmaker Sean Ellis will direct from a script co-written by Ellis with Anthony Frewin.

The European production is due to be financed through a combination of private equity, UK public investment, Czech financing via the tax rebate and private equity) and pre sales with shooting due to get underway in Prague in July 2015.

Jamie Dornan is also set to take the lead in the Irish/South African war drama ‘The Siege of Jadotville’ which is due to start shooting in the coming weeks. The rights to the film – which is co-produced by Parallel Films – were acquired by Netflix last month who will debut the film on its Internet subscription VOD services. In addition, the company is expected to release the film theatrically for an Oscar qualifying run.

Cillian Murphy is currently starring in BBC2 period drama ‘Peaky Blinders’ and also has a part in Ron Howard’s film ‘In the Heart of the Sea’ alongside fellow Irishman Sam Keeley. ‘In the Heart of the Sea’ is due out in late 2015.

Timothy V Murphy and Sarah White cast in ‘The Bastard Executioner’

FX have announced the ensemble cast for the pilot of their big budget 14th century drama ‘The Bastard Executioner’ with Irish actors Timothy V Murphy and Sarah White both landing roles in the project.

The series was written by ‘Sons of Anarchy’ creator Kurt Sutter, who is also scheduled to star as a character called The Dark Mute. Other actors confirmed for the series include Katey Segal, Stephen Moyer and Lee Jones.

‘The Bastard Executioner’, which will be directed by Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy collaborator Paris Barclay, tells the story of a warrior knight in King Edward I’s charge who is broken by the ravages of war and vows to lay down his sword. But when that violence finds him again he is forced to pick up the bloodiest sword of all.

Timothy V Murphy, who also has a part in True Detective Season 2 alongside Colin Farrell, will play Father Ruskin with his character being described as ‘brawny and gentle, with bottled fury’. He is a former soldier who left the military for the seminary.

Sarah White, who is known to Irish audiences for playing Sinead Moone in the International Emmy-winning comedy ‘Moone Boy, has been cast as Isabel Kiffin who is described as a ‘tall, slight, awkward and innocent and handmaiden and trusted confidant to Lady Love (portrayed by Flora Spencer-Longhurst). Check out IFTN’s interview with Sarah White and her ‘Moone Boy’ co-star Clare Monnelly here.
