Nolan may produce Justice League movie… Dark Knight trilogy director Christopher Nolan, currently serving as ‘godfather’ on this Summer’s heavily-hyped Superman blockbuster Man of Steel, may next turn his sights to the long-delayed Justice League movie according to several Hollywood reports. Early reaction to test screenings of Man of Steel have reportedly proved so positive that Warner Brothers are determined to get Nolan to commit to their plan for a Superman/Batman team-up. Whether Christian Bale will return as Batman following the events of The Dark Knight Rises remains to be seen. The rivalry between the cinematic adaptations of DC and Marvel comics intensified last year when The Avengers defeated the Dark Knight’s final adventure at the global box office.
Spielberg to develop Napoleon mini-series… Steven Spielberg is set to complete the unfinished work of the late great Stanley Kubrick by bringing the director’s long-planned biopic of the French Emperor to the small screen, according to French network Canal+. The pair previously collaborated on the science fiction extravaganza A.I.: Artificial Intelligence before Kubrick’s passing in 1999. Napoleon remained a pet project of Kubrick’s for decades and he left behind a vast body of research on the historical figure including a screenplay completed in 1961.
Vikings receives rave reviews… The Wicklow-shot nine part series ‘Vikings’ premiered on the History Channel in the US this Sunday evening to glowing reviews from the Washington Post and has already invited comparisons to fantasy epic Game of Thrones. Created by Take 5 Productions and starring Gabriel Byrne, the series focuses on Viking warrior Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) and the blood-thirsty exploits of his fellow rampaging Norsemen.
Byrne plays the series chief antagonist, Chieftain Earl Haraldson, in a show that explores Viking faith and culture amid lashings of guts, gore and on-screen violence. Costumes for the series were designed and provided by Irish multi-award winning Costume Designer Joan Bergin.
