Irish director Kit Ryan’s spoof horror-thriller ‘Botched’ defied its title and picked up the Best Film Award at the New York Horror Film Festival, which took place from the 24th-28th October. The film’s star Stephen Dorff (Blade, World Trade Centre) also walked away with the Best Actor award.
‘Botched’, Ryan’s directorial debut, follows professional thief Ritchie Donovan (Dorff), who, after a failed heist in Russia, is sent to Moscow to steal a priceless antique crucifix and finds himself dealing with twin serial killers, insane hostages, Russian hardmen and the possibility of a horrible death.
The film, produced by Terence Ryan, boasts a formidable supporting cast including Jamie Forman (Layer Cake), Jaime Murray (The Taming of the Shrew), Geoff Bell (Girl With a Pearl Earring) and Irish actors Hugh O’Conor (Chocolat, Speed Dating), Bronagh Gallagher (Tristan and Isolde, Sinners) and Norma Sheahan (Strength & Honour).
The Irish/ UK co-production was filmed at Ardmore Studios in April and May of last year, followed by shoots on location in the South of France and Moscow.
‘Botched’ screened at the recent IFI Horrorthon, and will reach cinema screens in the UK and Ireland in February 2008, distributed by Optimum Releasing.
