Irish actress Séainín Brennan is the latest name to join the cast of the BBC’s Belfast-based TV thriller ‘The Fall’. The Belfast actress will star alongside Gillian Anderson (The X Files) and Jamie Dornan (Marie Antoinette) in the psychological thriller which began principal photography in Belfast late last month. It is expected to shoot for up to 11 weeks in total.

Written by Allan Cubitt (Prime Suspect 2), the five-part series follows the story of a serial killer who stalks his victims around Belfast and also tells of the detective who is chasing him.

Dornan will play serial killer Paul Sector while Anderson plays the detective brought in to catch him. Brennan will play the character of Liz Tyler, a woman who Sector develops an unhealthy interest in.

Séainín told IFTN she was “thrilled and excited” to land the role adding that she believed the thriller would “grip and enthral lovers of quality drama”.

She added: “Alan Cubitt is such a brilliant writer. So to be given the chance to play one of his characters is a career highlight for me.

”I have had the honour of working with some amazing actors at the top of their craft so it will be a huge honour working with Gillian, Jamie and the rest of the fantastic cast on ‘The Fall’. The fact that the filming is happening in Belfast is an added bonus as I don’t get home as often as I’d like.”

This is the second primetime television role for Brennan in recent months. In October she starred alongside Philip Glenister (Ashes to Ashes) in BBC drama ‘Hidden’.

Earlier this month, Irish actor Gerard McCarthy (Hollyoaks) also joined the cast.

The series will be produced by UK production house Artists Studio. Stephen Wright will executive produce through BBC Northern Ireland, while the series is being funded from Northern Ireland Screen supported by Invest NI and part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

‘The Fall’ will be broadcast on BBC2 later this year.
