Dublin in Pieces
New Irish feature, ‘Dublin in Pieces’ is currently in post production in London. The feature is a film in nine chapters about Dublin and its diverse people and was shot throughout 2010. The low budget feature boasts a large cast including Emmet Kirwan (Sarah & Steve), Una Kavanagh (Fair City), Mark Tankersley (When Harvey Met Bob) and Brendan Conroy (Kings).

The €90,000 privately funded film from independent Irish production company, i-wire films, shot in three different production periods beginning July 2010, continuing in December and wrapping on Friday, April 1st. Written and directed by Rick Larkin (Satellites and Meteorites), each script looks to present a unique story with characters that are based on real life.

Rick explains how the story of the film is presented, telling us: ”The film tells the story of a day in the life of the city of Dublin. The story is presented via the conversations of people in the city, in chapters that are like snapshots of their lives. These people and their stories are linked only by the fabric of their shared home but, when they’re seen together, they give an emotive insight into a changing, beautiful Dublin.” The film is broken into nine chapters, each of which had a budget of €10,000. The feature’s post production budget is approximately €35k.

The other members of the film’s large cast include Adam Fergus (Being Erica); Kate Brennan (Raw, The Tudors); John Lynn (Satellites & Meteorites); Geoff Minogue (Once, Satellites & Meteorites); Jill Srigley (The Garden); Luke Griffin (Band of Brothers); Charlene Gleeson (Sarah & Steve); Norma Sheahan (New Boy); ‘The Thrills’ musician Daniel Ryan; Joanne Crawford (Satellites & Meteorites); Michael Sheahan (Fair City); Valerie O'Connor (The Daisy Chain); and newcomers Lisa Walsh and Nyree Yergainharsian.

‘Dublin in Pieces’ was shot on location in HD by cinematographer JJ Rolfe (The Good Doctor) and produced by Jill Srigley who tells IFTN how she became involved with the production, saying: “I had done a short with the writer Rick in 2008 called ‘The Garden’,” she starts, ”and when he came to me with this idea it was something I was immediately interested in because I’m from Canada and I knew we could have a nice mixture of Dublin from an insider’s perspective and that of an outsider.” Darren Hendley (Badly Drawn Roy) wrote the original score for the film and post-production is currently taking place in London.

I-wire Films have started initial talks as to finding a distributor for ‘Dublin in Pieces’ and hope to submit the film into Irish and International film festivals including the Galway Film Fleadh. The production company’s 2008 low-budget feature, ‘Satellites and Meteorites’ was picked up by High Point Films and sold to several territories, including Japan, the Middle East, Russia and China.
