Last week saw IFTA winning ‘His & Hers’ director, Ken Wardrop launching the 2010/2011 DARE2BDRINKAWARE competition in the Irish Multiplex Cinema in Dun Laoghaire. DARE2BDRINKAWARE – now in its fourth year – is a competition for film and multimedia students, organised by The Digital Hub and sponsored by drinkaware.ie.
The launch saw Ken joined by Fionnuala Sheehan, Chief Executive of drinkaware.ie, and John Hurley, Director of Learning with the Digital Hub Development Agency, as well as some of the students that participated in the DARE2BDRINKAWARE competition last year, all of whom are pictured above. Fionnuala outlined her hope for this year’s event, saying: “We have noticed worrying trends in recent years, whereby social media outlets are used to glorify drinking and drunken behaviour. We hope that this year’s DARE2BDRINKAWARE competition will encourage students to promote more responsible attitudes to drinking, through the use of new media tools.”
The competition is open to students of any discipline as technical ability is just one element of the judging criteria. To enter the competition, would-be submittors are asked to fill out the application form at http://www.dare2bdrinkaware.ie/application-form before November 11th 2010. A prize fund of €5,000 is up for grabs. The competition will culminate in a screening and awards ceremony in spring 2011. Further information and full guidelines for the competition are available at: www.DARE2BDRINKAWARE.ie.
