Geronimo Productions animation series ‘Nelly & Nora’ has been a hit with UK audiences since premiering in the summer.
The show, which debuted on CBeebies in the UK on 3rd August, has over the last five weeks hit the number 1 show slot on CBeebies and across all channels in UK Children’s programming and is consistently in the top 4 UK shows chart.
The series was also launched by BBC Worldwide on its’ Global CBeebies channels including Asia, Australia and South Africa.
‘Nelly and Nora’, which premiered on RTÉjr in February and follows Irish sisters who spend their holidays and weekends with their parents at the family's mobile home in a camping park by the sea, was created by Gerard O’Rourke who developed the series with writer and illustrator Emma Hogan. The show is directed by Jamie Teehan with animation by Jenny O'Brien, Adrian Ignat and Graham Tormey and music by Darren Hendley.
Speaking to IFTN about the show’s international success, creator Gerard O’Rourke said: “We are thrilled that a show based on 2 Irish sisters on their summer holidays in a camping park having fun whatever the weather is receiving such international attention.”
The series is also currently on air in Norway in a prime-time slot and will start on the biggest German kids channel KIKA (ZDF) in 2016 followed by Canada and many other countries worldwide. Walker Books will be releasing the first of the books in early 2016 with a special edition for Ireland. Geronimo’s Gerard O’Rourke will be at the upcoming Mipcom working with BBC Worldwide on new sales and in London at Brand Licensing in October with its’ agent ( BWI) to secure merchandising deals. The series is now playing on RTEjr in the Irish Language too and it also features on a national postage stamp issued by An Post.
