Disney+ have released their first look trailer for Wedding Season, a “genre busting” eight-part dark comedy that sees a bride’s new family poisoned on the night of her wedding.
Launching on September 8th, the series will run on Hulu in the United States and Star in South America. Irish director George Kane (Timewasters, Apocalypse Clown) serves as lead director on the show.
Wedding Season is led by Rosa Salazar (Alita: Battle Angel) and Dublin actor Gavin Drea (Vikings: Valhalla) who play characters Katie and Stefan who first meet a wedding. The duo quickly strike up an affair – despite the fact Katie is due to get married to someone else in two months. On the night of her wedding, Katie’s new husband is mysteriously found dead – along with his entire family – and Stefan quickly becomes the main suspect. Stefan, meanwhile, is wondering whether Katie may be capable of more than just infidelity.
The series is billed as “an action-packed romp across the U.K. and USA, as Katie and Stefan go on the run, all while trying to prove their innocence," the series also stars Jade Harrison (The Stranger), Jamie Michie (Back to Life), Callie Cooke (Britannia), Bhav Joshi (Vigil), Ioanna Kimbook (Inside No. 9), Omar Baroud (Baptiste) and George Webster (Versailles).
"It's rare you get the opportunity to direct a funny show with this much scale and cinematic ambition, right from the get go. Gun fights, boat chases, hand to hand combat... chucking cars off Scottish cliffsides... but ultimately all in the name of a sexy & romantic love story,” Kane tells IFTN.
“It's such a fun tonal tightrope to walk as a director, and the wonderful & lovable cast bring Oli Lyttleton's high energy genre mash-up to life,” the director adds. “It was a joy to put it all together with Disney supporting us."
Oliver Lyttelton (BBC's Cheaters) created and wrote the series. He also features as an executive produces alongside Dancing Ledge Productions’ Chris Carey, Laurence Bowen, and Toby Bruce, Jax Media’s Brooke Posch, Lilly Burns, Tony Hernandez, and Johanna Devereaux for Disney+.
George Kane is currently in post on Irish comedy feature Apocalypse Clown, starring David Earl (Brian & Charles) and Natalie Palamides (Nate: A One Man Show) produced by Fastnet Films and set for release in 2023.
