The 49th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival has added an array of films to its gala lineup, including Irish co-productions Bring Them Down, The End, On Becoming a Guinea Fowl and Sharp Corner.
Directed by Christopher Andrews and produced by Tailored Films, Bring Them Down sees “An Irish shepherding family thrust into battle on several fronts: internal strife, hostility within the family, and rivalry with another farmer.”. The film stars Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan and US actor Christopher Abbott - known for roles in Girls and Poor Things. The cast also includes Colm Meaney and Nora-Jane Noone.
The End, a feature film from acclaimed documentary filmmaker Joshua Oppenheimer, stars Tilda Swinton, George Mackay, Michael Shannon, Moses Ingram and Bronagh Gallagher. Wild Atlantic Pictures are Irish co-producers on the project. The film has been described as “A Golden Age-style musical about the last human family.”
Rungano Nyoni's On Becoming a Guinea Fowl, produced by Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element Pictures, premiered at Cannes and will also play at TIFF.
Jason Buxton's Sharp Corner - about “a dedicated family man who becomes obsessed with saving the lives of the car accident victims on the sharp corner in front of his house” - stars Cobie Smulders, Ben Foster and Alexandra Castillo and is a Parallel Films co-production.
Also on the TIFF lineup: Edward Berger's Conclave starring Ralph Fiennes and Brían F. O'Byrne; Andrea Arnold's Bird starring Barry Keoghan which premiered at Cannes and will be released by MUBI; Justin Kurzel's The Order starring Jude Law and Alison Oliver; and John Crowley's We Live in Time starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield.
Toronto International Film Festival runs from 5th to 15th September.
