Today Netflix announced the start of production on Wednesday Season 2 in Ireland with several new cast members joining the series, including Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, along with guest stars such as Christopher Lloyd and Haley Joel Osment.
Wednesday, a spin-off of the Addams Family franchise, has begun filming in Ireland. Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán are returning for the series’ second season, and are joined by new series regulars Steve Buscemi (The Big Lebowski), Billie Piper (Scoop), Evie Templeton (Return to Silent Hill), Owen Painter (The Handmaid’s Tale) and Noah Taylor (Law & Order: Organized Crime).
The Netflix series is described as “a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy.” Wednesday is the most popular English language TV series on Netflix with season one currently standing at 252.10 million views. This is almost double the views for its nearest competitor in the English language, Stranger Things season 4.
Guest stars this season include Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Joanna Lumley (Absolutely Fabulous), Thandiwe Newton (Westworld), Frances O’Connor (The Missing), Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense, A.I. Artificial Intelligence), Heather Matarazzo (The Princess Diaries) and Joonas Suotamo.
The show is directed and executive produced by Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands). Al Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville, Into the Badlands) are the showrunners and creators of Wednesday.
“We are thrilled that the entire Addams family will be enrolling in Nevermore Academy this season along with a dream cast of icons and new faces,” said showrunners Gough and Millar.
The first season of the Ortega-led series was shot in Romania from September 2021 to March 2022. Following the series’ success internationally, the Wednesday sets became major tourist attractions, giving Romania’s tourism industry a boost. However it is reported that this location presented logistical challenges for production.
Other season two directors include Paco Cabezas and Angela Robinson. Executive producers on the series include Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Tommy Harper, Karen Richards, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman, Gail Berman and Meredith Averill. Jenna Ortega is set to be a producer for season two.
Wednesday is produced by MGM Television, a sibling company of Amazon Studios.
