Film Ireland are launching their Digital Archive Project with a Cover Art Exhibition, in association with DBS School of Arts and the PARC24 research conference. The exhibition takes place in The DEAN Arts Studio in Dublin on Thursday, 18th April 2024.
Film Ireland will hold an exhibition in The DEAN Arts Studio in Dublin on Thursday, 18th April 2024, which visually tracks Film Ireland’s publication journey as Film Base News in 1987 through more than a quarter of a century in print.
The exhibition will launch Film Ireland’s Digital Archive Project, which aims to digitise the complete collection of 147 physical print issues of Film Ireland, covering more than 12,000 pages of industry content. The resulting digital archive will then be made available on an OA (Open Access) basis to students, researchers and the general public under a Creative Commons agreement.
The unique and varied content created by many editors and contributors to Film Ireland over the period offers a unique lens through which an emerging film sector can be seen becoming the significant regional and global player we now know as the Irish Film Industry.
Examining the early years of Film Ireland content, key formal concerns around funding, taxation, industry structure, training needs, EU relations and Foreign Direct Investment can be seen. Early concerns around the issues of representation, genre, gender, language, diversity and sustainability, now considered central to the activity and output of Irish Film and Media, can be traced in these publications also.
Film Ireland Cover Art Exhibition will take place in the DEAN Arts Studio, Dublin, on Thursday, April 18th, 6pm – 8pm.
