Tom Vaughan Lawlor in The Beautiful Game
Tom Vaughan Lawlor (Love/Hate, Avengers: Infinity War) stars in upcoming Netflix film The Beautiful Game, directed by Thea Sharrock (Wicked Little Letters) and produced by Colin Farrell.

Tom Vaughan Lawlor plays Kevin, the goalkeeper of England’s homeless football team in Netflix film The Beautiful Game, co-starring alongside Bill Nighy. The upcoming film is directed by Thea Sharrock (Wicked Little Letters).

The Beautiful Game follows Mal (Nighy) is the manager of England’s homeless football team, taking his players to Rome with the hope of being crowned champions of the Homeless World Cup, a global street soccer tournament.  At the last minute he decides to bring with them a talented striker Vinny (Micheal Ward) who could give them a real chance at winning.The film is made with the support of the Homeless World Cup.

“It was a massive honor to be a part of telling this story of homeless men and women who represent their countries at the Homeless World Cup," said Tom Vaughan Lawlor. "It was also thrilling to make a film in Rome about the magic of football and its ability to transcend boarders and languages. The Beautiful Game is a film with a massive heart and I’m so excited to share it with audiences around the world.”

Vaughan Lawlor, Nighy, and Ward (Empire of Light) star alongside Susan Wokoma (Enola Holmes 2), Callum Scott Howells (It’s a Sin), Kit Young (Shadow and Bone), Sheyi Cole (Small Axe), Robin Nazari (Clark), Aoi Okuyama (Ya Boy Kongming!), Cristina Rodlo (Halo), Tadashi Watanabe, Kazuhiro Muroyama and Valeria Golino (Rain Man).

The film is produced by Blueprint Pictures' Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin & Ben Knight with Anita Overland and Colin Farrell. Farrell’s connection to the Homeless World Cup goes back to 2008 when he narrated the documentary Kicking It, which focused on the lives of several homeless people who had their lives changed after taking part in the competition.

The screenplay for The Beautiful Game was written by Frank Cottrell Boyce, author of children’s books such as Framed, Millions, and Cosmic. Cottrell Boyce’s work as a screenwriter includes Michael Winterbottom’s 24 Hour Party People and A Cock and Bull Story, and Danny Boyle’s film adaptation of Millions.

Executive producers are Diarmuid McKeown, Claudine Farrell and Ollie Madden and Daniel Battsek for Film4.

The Beautiful Game hits Netflix on March 29th, 2024.
