Searchlight Pictures have released new look images of All of Us Strangers, Andrew Leigh’s latest feature film. The film stars Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal, Claire Foy, and Jamie Bell.
All of Us Strangers is the latest feature film from Andrew Leigh, director of Weekend, 45 Years, and Lean on Pete. The cast is led by IFTA and BAFTA Winners Andrew Scott (Fleabag, Sherlock), and Paul Mescal (Normal People, Aftersun). These newly released images offer the first look at Claire Foy and Jamie Bell’s characters.
The film follows a screenwriter Adam (Scott) who, after a chance encounter with his neighbor Harry (Mescal), is pulled back to his childhood home where he discovers that his long-dead parents (Foy and Bell) are living and look the same age as the day they died.
For the scenes in which Adam returns to his parent’s home and finds himself returned to his childhood, Haigh brought his production crew to his own childhood home to redecorate it and restore it to how he remembers the space looked when he was a child. Speaking to Vanity Fair about this decision, Haigh said: “To suddenly deal with my own past at the same time as I was telling a story about someone else dealing with their past, I’m not sure if it was foolish, emotionally or mentally. But it was a really strangely cathartic experiment.”
All of Us Strangers is Haigh’s adaptation of Taichi Yamada’s 1987 novel Strangers. The original novel took place in Tokyo, however Haigh’s adaptation will take place in current-day London. The film is being produced by Graham Broadbent (The Banshees of Inisherin), Peter Czernin (In Bruges), and Sarah Harvey (Seven Psychopaths). It is a Blueprint Pictures and Film4 production, and is being distributed by Searchlight Pictures.
All of Us Strangers is set to release in cinemas on 22nd December, 2023.
