Amazon Studios release first look images of Foe, an upcoming adaptation of the novel of the same name. The film will release theatrically in the US on October 6th.
Academy Award nominee and IFTA winners Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn, Ladybird) and Paul Mescal (Normal People, Aftersun) will star alongside Aaron Pierre in Foe (Old, The Underground Railroad), an apocalyptic chamber-piece thriller.
The film follows Junior (Mescal) and Henrietta (Ronan), a married couple living in a rural farmhouse 40 or so years into the future. Their quiet life is thrown into turmoil when an uninvited stranger shows up at their door with a startling proposal. Terrance (Pierre) claims to be working with the government. He makes a proposal for Junior to leave home for several years to help pilot a space program intended to facilitate the transition away from life on a deteriorating Earth. He doesn’t want to go, but he’s not given a choice.
Foe is an adaptation of a novel of the same name written by Iain Reid, author of the Charlie Kaufman-adapted I’m Thinking of Ending Things, and directed by Garth Davis (Lion). Davis and Reid co-wrote the adapted screenplay. Davis is also producing the film, alongside Iain Canning (The King’s Speech), Kerry Kohansky-Roberts (Boy Erased), and Emile Sherman (Lion).
“I was hoping to find some material where I could really push performances to the next level,” director Davis told Vanity Fair, “I’m a huge Cassavetes fan. I love the actors’ art. It’s the most important thing to me.”
The film will release in the US on October 6th, an Irish theatrical release date is yet to be confirmed.
