Irish-Korean Co-Production 'An Balla' Returns to TG4 at 9:30pm
16 Jan 2019 : Nathan Griffin
The new TG4 documentary series, which was made in conjunction with Korean broadcaster Jeonju Sign, explores four of the world’s most iconic walls and borders.

Episode two of ‘An Balla’ returns tonight on TG4 at 9:30pm.

Each episode uncovers the human stories behind these walls; Stories about hope and unity in the face of division, and about the triumph of the human spirit in spite of separation.

The second episode of ‘An Balla’ will see presenter Síle Nic Chonaonaigh travel to some of the world’s most iconic walls continues. The fall of the Berlin Wall was one of the 20th century’s most momentous moments. It signalled the end of the Cold War and was a symbolic act of people power. But as the wall came down, a terrifying truth emerged about the dictatorship that ruled in the East. 30 years after the fall of the wall Síle meets some of the captivating characters whose compelling accounts uncover the sinister world of the Stasi who controlled every aspect of life in the East.

The first episode, which aired on Wednesday, January 9th saw Síle visit the US/Mexico border where she meets families torn apart by the wall and parents who live in fear of being separated from their children and deported from the US to Mexico.

‘An Balla’ is produced by Irish production company ROSG for TG4.

You can catch the first episode of ‘An Balla’ on the TG4 website – here.
