War-drama ‘Anthropoid’ starring Cillian Murphy & Jamie Dornan earns 12 Czech Lion Awards Nominations

Both actors are honoured in the nominations, with Murphy up for Best Actor for his performance as Josef Gabcik, and Dornan who plays Jan Kubis for Best Supporting Actor. The winners will be announced at the 24th Czech Lion Awards Ceremony on Saturday, March 4th.

Director Sean Ellis who is also the Cinematographer, co-wrote the screenplay with Anthony Frewin (Color Me Kubrick) and co-produced with Mickey Liddell and Pete Shilaimonof LD Entertainment.

He is potentially in line for four awards with nominations for Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Photography, in addition to those for editing, sound, music, art direction, costumes and make-up.

‘Anthropoid’ is based on a real-life 1941 mission Operation Anthropoid, in which Czech agents are assigned to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich, a renowned figure in the Nazi hierarchy. The senior commander was known for both the Final Solution and the Nazi presence in Czechoslovakia.

‘Anthropoid’ released to Irish cinemas in September of 2016 and is currently available on demand from Volta.
