A UK version of Irish business series ‘The Takeover’ has been commissioned by Channel 4.
The new show will be a joint venture between Sony Pictures Television and UK based TV production company Victory Television.
The premise of the show sees the employees of a business take over the running of the company from management.
The RTÉ2 series was presented by Norah Casey – who is also currently presenting RTÉ2 series ‘Norah’s Traveller Academy’ – with Hilary Devey - a former star of the UK edition of Dragons' Den – expected to present the British version.
Speaking to IFTN about ‘The Takeover’ getting picked up by Channel 4, Eoin Kavanagh of Totes Productions said: ‘We’ve been working closely with Sony Pictures Television for the past two years to get ‘The Takeover’ on air in the UK. Following a brilliant pilot produced by Victory Television, we’re thrilled that Channel 4 has commissioned the format to series.’
Kavanagh continued: ‘Over 13 episodes of ‘The Takeover’ on RTE2, we’ve seen Irish employees in hotels, restaurants, hair salons, bakeries, racecourses, DIY stores and gyms make the changes they’ve always dreamed of. We can’t wait to see what workers across the UK do when their brave bosses hand over control.’
‘The Takeover’ was created by Toto Productions’ Eoin Kavanagh and Ruth Roden in 2011 and was the first pilot to be aired as part of the Format Farm Scheme in 2012.
