Sundance Update: Fox Searchlight acquires ‘Brooklyn’ for worldwide distribution in $9m deal
28 Jan 2015 : Seán Brosnan
'Brooklyn' has recieved highly positive reviews since premiering at Sundance
Fox Searchlight has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to John Crowley’s ‘Brooklyn’, after the film premiered to critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival.

The $9m deal covers every territory, with the exception of Ireland and the UK, Canada, and Australia – with ‘Brooklyn’ garnering highly positive reviews from US publications such as Variety, The Los Angeles Times, The Hollywood Reporter and the New York Post after premiering at the festival.

Brooklyn is an Irish/British co-production from Wildgaze Films, Finola Dwyer Productions, Parallel Films and Item 7. Brooklyn was co-financed by the Irish Film Board and filmed on location in Wexford, Dublin and Wicklow, as well as Montreal and New York.

Directed by IFTA and BAFTA winning director John Crowley (‘Intermission’, ‘Boy A’) and adapted by Nick Hornby from Colm Tóibin’s novel of the same name, ‘Brooklyn’ stars Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan as a young Irish immigrant in 1950’s New York whose blossoming relationship with an Italian plumber Tony (Emory Cohen),is threatened when tragedy calls her home. She returns to Ireland where her attraction for a charming local man called Jim (Domhnall Gleeson), grows.

In other Sundance news, IFTN reported earlier this week that the Irish/Australian film ‘Strangerland’ sold to Alchemy for US Distribution after screening at the festival.
