Sundance Update: ‘Strangerland’ to be distributed in the US by Alchemy
26 Jan 2015 : Seán Brosnan
Irish co-production Strangerland to be shown in US cinemas after deal
The Irish/Australian co-production ‘Strangerland’ has been acquired for US distribution by Alchemy after screening at the Sundance Film Festival.

Co-produced by Macdara Kelleher from Fastnet Films – with partial funding from the Irish Film Board - and comprising of a crew including cinematographer PJ Dillon, sound recordist Rob Flanagan, and photographer Ross McDonnell, this deal will see Alchemy release the film on multiple platforms including a theatrical release.

‘Strangerland’ tells the story of Catherine and Matthew Parker, whose two teenage kids disappear into the remote Australian desert, and sees the couple’s relationship is pushed to the brink as they confront the mystery of their children’s fate.

The film is directed by Kim Farrant, and stars Nicole Kidman, Joseph Fiennes, Hugo Weaving, Lisa Flanagan, Meyne Wyatt, and Maddison Brown. Irish writer Michael Kinirons co-wrote the script with Fiona Seres.

‘Strangerland’ premiered in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at the festival, with Gerard Barrett’s ‘Glassland’ (produced by Element Pictures) also appearing in the same category.
