Award winning travel show ‘Ó Tholg go Tolg’ (From Couch to Couch) returns to TG4 for a ten part series from October 14th. After a casting call from the producers in February of this year, series 3 will see Ciara Ní Bhroin and Bláithín de Burca couch surf around the Baltic Coast Line and Northern Europe.
Couch surfing is a popular new fad whereby travellers stay on the couches of locals rather than in hostels or hotels. ‘Ó Tholg go Tolg’ is a unique TV format that accompanies the travelling girls and records their unique experiences on their journey across Europe. The Irish language is essential to the show as it gives the girls a secret means of communication which others will not understand.
Couch-surfing is essentially when travelers ask ‘hosts’, who can be found online on well organised websites, if they can stay in their home for a couple of days – for free – and participate in their lives. But couch surfing is not about free accommodation and the girls sometimes have to pitch in around the house or even the farm. During their 10 week trip Ciara and Bláithín stay with over twenty households in 12 different countries.
For the second series of the show, Bláthnaid Treacy (now presenting ‘Two Tube’ on RTÉ) and Laura O’Connell stayed with over twenty households in twelve different countries.
Series 3 was directed by Tomás Seoighe and the post was done at Reelgood Studios. Ó Tholg go Tolg’ is produced by Red Pepper Productions whose previous credits include ‘Only Fools Buy Horses’, ‘How the Irish have Sex’, ‘Behind the Crime’ and ‘Tar Abhaile’.
Series 3 of Ó Tholg go Tolg airs on TG4 every Tuesday at 9:30 from the 14th of October 2014, it will also be available on TG4 player at www.tg4.tv
