The producers of the hit TV travel show ‘Ó Tholg go Tolg’, or ‘From Couch to Couch’, are looking for two new stars who will travel around Europe this summer for the third series of the show.
The ten part series of the show sees two Irish-speaking girls couch surf their way around Europe. Couch surfing is a popular new fad whereby travellers stay on the couches of locals rather than in hostels or hotels.
‘Ó Tholg go Tolg’ is a unique TV format that accompanies the travelling girls and records their unique experiences on their journey across Europe. The Irish language is essential to the show as it gives the girls a secret means of communication which others will not understand.
The couch surfing experience will see the travellers ask ‘hosts’, who are sourced online on reliable websites, if they can stay in their home for a few days to participate in their lives. Sometimes the accommodation is free, other times the girls are asked to pitch into the housework or help around the farm, or they may have to literally ‘sing for their supper’.
In ‘Ó Tholg go Tolg’, viewers of the show receive personalized tours around some of Europe’s best-known cities, learning new things as the girls are guided by their local ‘host’. They will meet many interesting and compassionate people of every generation and from all walks of life who not only open their doors to them but also share intimate details about their lives.
For the second series of the show, Bláthnaid Treacy (now presenting Two Tube on RTÉ) and Laura O’Connell stayed with over twenty households in twelve different countries, getting a taste of each unique culture. Some of the highlights included staying with a street performer in Germany and sleeping on the floor with four Mexican clowns; being given first-hand accounts of the NATO bombings in Serbia; learning stories about child refugees in Kosovo; and having fun times too as they teach people about their own culture, giving Irish dancing lessons and having parties until late.
Ó Tholg go Tolg’ is produced by Red Pepper Productions whose previous credits include ‘Only Fools Buy Horses’, ‘How the Irish have Sex’, ‘Behind the Crime’ and ‘Tar Abahaile’.
If you would like to be the next star of ‘Ó Tholg go Tolg’, send your CV and a video clip of yourself to tolg@redpepper.ie
The closing date for applications is February 10.
