‘Lean On Me’ is a two minute short starring Paddy C. Courtney (Shameless), Joe Rooney (Father Ted) and directed by Gavin Butler.
Since making its debut at the Galway Film Fleadh in August 2013, Kakapo Film’s ‘Lean On Me’ was selected to screen at numerous national and international film festivals, including Edmonton in Canada, Nevada City, Lone Star, Texas and Milwaukee in America, along with Leamington in the U.K.
‘Lean On Me’ explores the practicalities of the act of suicide and the loyalty of true friendship. The dark but humorous film is produced by Barry Gibbons and executive produced by Paddy. C. Courtney.
In September 2013 the short was screened at the IFI in Dublin, in advance of one of its main films.
The short catches a glimpse into the lives of friends, Dan, played by Courtney, and Pete, played by Rooney.
Executive Producer and co-star Paddy C. Courtney said, “Suicide is no joking matter but ‘Lean On Me’ offers a fresh insight into a subject that belongs in everyday conversation, no matter how serious or ludicrous.”
Other key crew members include cinematographer Cillian Ward, Brendan Rehill on sound, editor Barry Gibbons and Love/Hate composer Ray Harman.
The short was released for public viewing via YouTube on Monday January 27th 2014 and will be screened at the upcoming Dingle Film Festival, 14th – 17th of March 2014.
The filmmakers are currently in the process of writing treatments for the next instalment. They plan on creating six half hour long films stemming from ‘Lean On Me’.
