'Road to Revolution', an Irish-Portuguese co-production by Dublin's beActive.
‘Road to Revolution’, a transmedia documentary co-produced by Dublin’s beActive about three Portuguese journalists retracing the path of the Arab Spring, has been selected for the Raindance Film Festival in London.

The 90 min documentary draws upon more than 200 hours of footage shot over four months in ten different countries - Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.

The documentary, however, is but one strand of a multi-platform transmedia campaign by beActive, encompassing two 52-minute TV episodes, an App, a book published in Portugal, blogs, webisodes and social media content.

The TV version of ‘Road to Revolution’ made its debut at MIPDOC 2013 in Cannes for which beActive are currently negotiating licensing deals with more than 30 broadcasters around the world.

Speaking from Dublin, the director Dânia Lucas spoke of his delight at the documentary’s selection for Raindance:

‘We are really thrilled to be in the official selection at Raindance, we are really grateful to the organisers for giving us this platform to introduce more people to the Road to Revolution project and the whole team are looking forward to the screening.’

beActive is known for such TV & transmedia projects as ‘Sofia’s Diary’ for Sony Pictures Television; Irish interactive TV series ‘Aisling’s Diary’; and ‘Beat Girl’ which was released in European cinemas and across several media platforms.

The transmedia production company has currently launched its TV app for Samsung devices which acts as a 3-device player (Connected TV, tablet and smartphones) that allows free access to hundreds of episodes of beActive’s TV and Web series. The app allows consumers to view content, subscribe to a series, share episodes through social networks and have access to additional content that complement the series, such as eBooks, comics, games or movies.

'Road to Revolution' is among one of the documentaries available to users on the app aswell as beActive's first sci-fi project ‘Collider’, of which preview footage was screened at Dublin’s Comic Con last month.
