‘Life’s A Breeze’, Lance Daly’s recession comedy starring Pat Shortt and Fionnula Flanagan, is set to receive its international premiere at the Toronto Film Festival this September, as part of the their Contemporary World Cinema section.
Regular IFTN readers will need no introduction to the film, which was released in Irish cinemas in July and screened at the Galway Film Fleadh, where it was awarded second place in Best Irish Feature category.
Newcomer Kelly Thornton also won the Bingham Ray New Talent Award for her impressive portrayal of Emma, the central character in the film.
Pat Shortt, who is currently performing in ‘The Cripple of Inishmaan’ alongside Daniel Radcliffe in the West End in London, will travel to Toronto to promote the film next month.
‘The F Word’, an Irish/Canadian co-production with Fastnet Films which was filmed in Dublin last year and stars Radcliffe, will also screen at the Toronto Film Festival.
Fastnet’s Macdara Kelleher produced ‘Life’s A Breeze’ and ‘The F Word’, both of which received part funding from the Irish Film Board.
Other Irish films that had their international premieres in Toronto include Lenny Abrahamson’s ‘What Richard Did’, Neil Jordan’s ‘Ondine’ and Jim Sheridan’s ‘In America’.
‘Life’s A Breeze’ follows one family’s search for the grandmother’s life savings when the mattress they were hidden inside is thrown out – sparking a nationwide hunt for the lost fortune.
Other cast members include Eva Birthistle, Gerry McCann, Philip Judge, Lesley Conroy, Peter Coonan, Paul Ronan and Brian Gleeson, with cameos from Ryan Tubridy and Joe Duffy’s voice on the radio.
’Life’s A Breeze’ is an Irish-Swedish co-production between Fastnet Films and Anagram Produktions, produced by Fastnet’s Macdara Kelleher, Tomas Eskilsson and Martin Persson of Anagram Produktion.
