IFTA nominated Stuart Townsend has just landed the lead role in new ABC Drama ‘Betrayal’, to be aired in America this Autumn.
Set in Chicago, the series begins with a chance meeting between photographer Sara Hadley (Hannah Ware) and attorney Jack McAllister (Stuart Townsend). The two immediately feel an attraction to each other, even though both are married, leading them to question the importance of family against their personal desires.
Sara’s husband Drew (Chris Johnson) is a successful prosecutor, who hopes to hold political office one day and Jack’s wife Elaine (Wendy Moniz) is the daughter of Thacher Karsten (James Cromwell), who happens to be Jack’s boss. When Sara and Jack finally give in to their attraction things quickly begin to unravel.
After Karsten’s brother-in-law is murdered, all evidence points to his son T.J. (Henry Thomas) as the killer. Jack steps in to defend him and he will face off against Drew, which puts Sara and Jack on opposite sides of a murder investigation.
Townsend graduated from Gaiety School of Acting (GSA) in 1993 and since then has appeared in feature films such as ‘Trapped’, ‘The League of Extraordinary Gentleman’ and ‘Chaos Theory’. In 2008 Townsend was nominated for an IFTA for his writing/directing debut ‘Battle in Seattle’.
Townsend isn’t the first GSA graduate to make waves in America. Previous graduates who have been successful in Hollywood include Colin Farrell, Olivia Wilde, Eva Birthistle, Colin O’Donoghue and Aidan Turner.
