Carla Mooney lands role in spy thriller ‘Kickback’ opposite John Cusack, Stuart Townsend nabs multi-episode part in US TV show ‘Elementary’ and Jason Barry and Brian Robinson both to star in new feature ‘Murphy’ from Caspian Pictures.

Carla Mooney Lands Role in Spy Thriller ‘Kickback’

Carla Mooney (‘Repeat’, ‘The Secret of Permanency’) has been cast in spy thriller ‘Kickback’ playing the role of Claudia. US actor John Cusack (‘Grosse Pointe Blank, 'Being John Malkovich’) is slated to play the lead.

The film is based on a true story and centres on a renegade Moscow detective investigating the murder of a female war journalist who soon becomes embroiled in a web of counter espionage involving chemical warfare, and the assassination of the Russian president.

Written and to be directed by Raza Mallal of Yorkshire-based Talking Lens Productions in 2015, the film will also star Famke Janssen, Sean Astin, Mischa Barton, Michael Biehn, John Hannah, Rutger Hauer, Stelio Savante, Tom Sizemore, and Sean Young with the DOP Douglas Milsome (‘Full Metal Jacket’) also attached.

Stuart Townsend Cast in US TV show ‘Elementary’

Irish actor Stuart Townsend has been cast in US procedural Elementary.

He will play a recurring role as Joan Watson's (Lucy Liu) new boss at a global insurance firm, and will first appear in 2015.

An upcoming arc will see Joan, formerly assistant to Jonny Lee Miller's Sherlock Holmes, take on a part-time job as an investigator for the company.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Rob Doherty said: ‘We'll find out that the company has hired Joan a handful of times with small assignments, and she's managed to catch their eye and they want her to join on a more permanent basis. When we meet Stuart's character, Sherlock is finding out about all of this for the first time, and has to figure out to what degree this might change the dynamics of the partnership again.’

Townsend has starred in US TV shows in the past including ‘Will And Grace’ and ‘Betrayal’.

Jason Berry and Brian Robinson in new Caspian Pictures Film

Irish actors Jason Barry (‘Love/Hate’) and Brian Robinson (‘2 Broke Girls’) have signed on to star in the new feature from Caspian Pictures entitled ‘Murphy’. Will Raee (‘Lost in Austin’) will direct.

The film centres around ultimate fighting coach, Timmy Murphy (Barry) who finds a Brazilian girl who's been in a bar fight and is down on her luck. Impressed by her technique, he asks her to train with him and compete for the women's title. After some convincing she agrees, but it's not long before the girls troubled past catches up with them. Robinson will play Murphy's top fighter who gets jealous when another protégé enters his gym. Production on ‘Murphy’ is set to get underway in summer of 2015.
