Irish Red Cross ‘whistle-blower’ Noel Wardick - who highlighted financial irregularities within the charity as an anonymous blogger - forms the subject of an Irish documentary set to screen in Greece this March.
‘Committing The Truth’, directed by Niamh Heery and Cathal Burke, highlights Mr Wardick’s efforts in publishing his corporate concerns online before he was fired as head of the charity’s international department for ‘gross misconduct’ in November 2010.
Praised by many for putting his reputation on the line for what he believed to be right, Mr Wardick inspired a witch hunt within the Irish Red Cross before he was discovered as the source of the leak of insider information.
‘It’s the fear of the consequences that prevent people from speaking up when they know they really should,’ he says in the documentary.
‘Committing the Truth’ will be shown at the Doc Market of the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, which runs from 15-24th March and is dedicated to honouring the ‘creative, cinematic, socially-committed and constantly evolving art of the documentary'.
Over 60 broadcasters, buyers and distributors will be present at the documentary market of the festival, including ARTE, CINEPHIL, Al Jazeera, Canal+ and the Danish Film Institute.
