Irish horror film ‘Stitches’ continues its scare fest around the world, with a North American theatrical release announced for April Fools’ Day.
The comedy horror, from writer/director Conor McMahon, was released in Ireland last October, just in time for Halloween. It is now getting the red carpet treatment state side, with McMahon and lead actor Tommy Knight set to travel to North America for the US premiere.
‘Stitches’ sees UK actor Knight, known for his roles in ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘Waterloo Road’, attempt to escape killer clown ‘Stitches’ Grindle, played by comedian Ross Noble.
Knight’s character, along with his friends, is responsible for killing Stitches at a birthday party years previously.
The film, written and directed by McMahon, a previous Storyland winner with ‘Zombie Bashers’, was produced by Fantastic Films and Tailored Films in association with MPI Media Group.
MPI has now sold the feature to more than 10 territories around the world, including the UK, the US, Canada and Japan.
‘Stitches’ was ranked third in Bloody Disgusting’s top 10 of 2012, while another Irish co-production ‘Citadel’ was ranked seventh.
Commenting on the goriness of the film ahead of its Irish release last year, director McMahon told IFTN: “I just find it funnier when you just show everything and you leave nothing to the imagination, it’s a better way to play it. If you were to do a scene and there were just sound effects and kind of horrible noises, it would not really be more discerning that showing the whole thing.”
‘Stitches’ is released in North America on April 1, and is available on VOD from April 2.
