‘Love/Hate’ Season Three Gets Broadcast Date
25 Oct 2012 : By Eva Hall
Key cast members of 'Love/Hate' are returning for season three
‘Love/Hate’ will return to our screens on November 11, RTÉ has announced.

It has been nearly a year since season two of the gangland drama ended, with fans eagerly waiting to find out what will happen to the Dublin-based crime gang after John Boy’s death. RTÉ has been keeping details of the IFTA-winning series a close guarded secret until now.

RTÉ promises an eventful start to season three, where audiences will be greeted with King Nidge (played by Tom Vaughan-Lawlor), who is starting to become dissatisfied with his new found power, as well as his home life with wife Trish (played by Aoibhinn McGinnity) and the fact that he is going bald.

Robert Sheehan also returns as Darren, who is coming to terms with the loss of both his brother and his girlfriend, while Fran (played by Peter Coonan), is released from prison, but is still holding a grudge.

Relationships in the gang are further tested when Tommy (Killian Scott) continues to see Debbie (Susan Loughnane) behind Siobhan’s (Charlie Murphy) back, and when one of the gang is accidentally shot, Nidge declares war on a rival crime organisation.

New cast members joining the gun-wielding gang for season three include Git, who is played by Jimmy Smallhorne, Georgina, played by Eve Macklin, and Dano, played by Jason Byrne.

The cast shot the series over 11 weeks in various locations around Dublin including Donnybrook, Dolphin’s Barn, Finglas, Tallaght and more. When IFTN visited the set in Donnybrook last May, the cast revealed how close they all are, despite some only meeting each other at the time of filming.

“There's a wonderful bunch of people involved. Great actors, great crew, David Caffrey the director leads the charge. It’s just a great atmosphere on-set and a great bunch of people,” said Jason Barry.

Vaughan-Lawlor added: “I think the three stars of the show, beside the actors and the writers are David Caffrey the director; Gail Munnelly who is the first AD and David Odd, who is the director of photography. They are the engine of our whole show and without them we’d be totally lost.”

Stuart Carolan wrote the script for ‘Love/Hate’, with David Caffrey directing. RTÉ funded the Octagon Films production, which was produced by Suzanne McAuley, Steve Matthews and executive produced by James Flynn. Season three returns to RTÉ One on Sunday, November 11, at 9.30pm.
